Evan Rachel Wood to Work with Jim Again?

Moviehole has posted an interview with Evan Rachel Wood in which she mentions her hopes of working with Jim again in the upcoming Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

“It’s gotten pushed. But rehearsals should be starting in October. So, I think it’ll hopefully hit Broadway by February”, says the actress, adding that they still haven’t cast their Peter Parker. “You know, I’m still trying to drag Jim Sturgess. But – if he doesn’t do it, I’m not sure. We actually did the workshop together. So, I have sang the Peter Parker-Mary Jane songs with him, and I just can’t imagine anybody else doing it. So, I’ll be sad. But I have a lot of faith in Julie, and I’m sure she’ll find somebody amazing.”

‘Crossing Over’ Review

Michael Smith from Tulsa World has written a review on Crossing Over.

Crossing Over” is so slanted to one brand of thinking - illegal aliens want to become legal resident, but red tape and intolerant Americans block their path at every turn - that it doesn’t raise any real debate. Thus, it fails to realize any geniune, universal truths in the immigration morass.

Meanwhile, a young atheist (Jim Sturgess of “21“) trades on his Jewish background to gain permanent residency, while his Australian actress girlfriend (a frequently nude Alice Eve frp, “Lost“) makes a sexual deal for a work permit from a slimy immigration agent played by Ray Liotta, who is cheating on his immigration defense attorney wife (Ashley Judd), who wants to adopt a little African girl whose mother is dying of AIDS.

Sturgess In An Explosive Situation

Tom Dawson from Metro.co.uk talks to Jim about his film Fifty Dead Men Walking.

A couple of years ago, Jim Sturgess was, as he puts it, ‘a jobbing actor, desperately trying to get some work if and when I could’. At the time, his focus was on music - but when his band, Dilated Spies, split, he decided to audition for Julie Taymor’s Beatles musical, Across The Universe. To Sturgess’s amazement, he won the lead role of Jude, and traded life in London for a New York film set.

The pivotal relationship in the film, adapted and directed by Canadian Kari Skogland, is between Sturgess’s McGartland, a quick-witted hustler from West Belfast, and his English handler, the reticent Fergus (Ben Kingsley). ‘There’s an interesting dynamic to play with,’ says Sturgess.
‘There’s a father-son component and, at the same time, Fergus is practically pushing Martin to his death. They were all each other had. Either could get the other one killed in a second.’

‘The Way Back’ Financing News

Variety reports that Abu Dhabi’s film division Imagenation and National Geographic are making a significant equity investment ($100 million) in the Peter Weir-directed drama “The Way Back.”

Imagenation and National Geographic become co-producers of “The Way Back” with Exclusive Media Group and Spitfire Pictures.

Currently shooting in Bulgaria, “The Way Back” stars Colin Farrell, Ed Harris, Saoirse Ronan and Jim Sturgess. Pic is based on Slavomir Rawicz’s novel “The Long Walk: The True Story of a Trek to Freedom” about a small group of prisoners who escape a Siberian gulag in 1940 (Daily Variety, Oct. 16).

“It’s just the kind of story we envisaged when we formed our relationship with National Geographic,” said Imagenation chief exec Ed Borgerding. “It’s a real story of human achievement against the odds and nature.”

Said National Geographic Films president Adam Leipzig: “This was the perfect first film for our fund, a movie that National Geographic is proud to have its brand on.”
